July 7 - Pink Rock 2016

Our numbers taking part in this year’s 10K Road championships were down on previous years but the results were excellent with the men winning the team event and the ladies placing second. Caoilte Malone, second in county and second overall, was our star performer. Cathy Millett in 5th place, and 3rd in over 50 category, was next scorer. Joya Burns, Sinead Quinn, Ashling Cullen and Mary Quinn were the rest of our ladies. Trust Mtinsi and Paul Moran, 2nd and 3rd respectively in the county championship race, set up the men’s team for victory. Pat Purcell 11th and Declan Walshe 16th concluded the teams scoring – 32 points, just two points ahead of Gowran’s 34. There was further backup from Ian Comerford and Bernard O’Gorman.

June 13 - Little South Run

We had four good runs in the Little South Run- the 4 miles in Kilmacow – with all four finishing under 25 minutes. Marcus FitzSimons was our firstman home in 6th place overall (2nd Kilkenny) in 22.44. Mark O’Duffy was 10th, Trust Mtinsi 11th and Pat Purcell 17th

May 2 - KCH Ladies Win Novice Gold

Once again Gowran has proved to be a happy hunting ground for our Novice Ladies. Competing in the Leinster Road championships this afternoon they were comfortable winners with Caoilte Malone, in flying form, taking individual silver. A further boost to the team was the fine performance of Sarah Nolan who placed 6th . Ann Marie O’Grady in 9th and Aisling Gannon 13th completed the scoring. There was cause for further celebration when the county results were announced. The county team with Caoilte and Sarah both involved also won gold.

Later in the afternoon it was the turn of the Masters Ladies and they didn’t disappoint. Donna Dunne ran a really competitive race and was in contention for individual placing for most of the race. Ultimately she finished 7th overall which made her first home on the third placed county team and second individual over 35. Marie Cormack in 21st was part of the county team as was Cathy Millett who finished 2nd in the over 50 rankings.

While our ladies turned out in good numbers we had just two men in action today. Tom O’Keeffe ran the Novice race and was in medal contention from the start. Finishing strongly in third place he led home the bronze winning county team. Our final runner was Johann Dewberry running in the Masters Men.  Showing good form he finished in 24th place overall and was 8th in the over 40 category.

March 17 - A Great “DASH”

Today’s weather was ideal. The turnout was terrific. The organisation was superb. Kilkenny mid-fielder, Conor Fogarty blew the whistle to get the KCH/Fit4Life annual St Patrick’s Day DASH was under way. This year’s 5K race, in aid of Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre and Canteen Ireland, was run totally in the Castle Park using the now familiar Parkrun course. The move from the Watershed, necessitated by the ongoing reconstruction at ScanlonPark athletic track, proved very successful and as a result the CastlePark may become the preferred venue for the future.

The runners came in all shapes and ages with a good sprinkling of parents with buggies and whole family groups. A goodly number of local athletes negotiated their way through the thronged early stages. And it was these athletes who took the major prizes at the end. Thanks to the work of the Fit4Life organisers there were loads of spot prizes to reward many of the non-athletic participants, many of whom came suitably attired for Lá le Pádraig.

Prize Winners

Juvenile Girls – 1 Annie McEvoy, 2 Grace Richardson, 3Annie O’Connor.

Juvenile Boys – 1 Rory Lodge, 2 Shay McEvoy, 3 JamesKearney.

Senior Ladies – 1 Caoilte Malone, 2 Sally Forristal, 3 Niamh Richardson.

Senior Men – 1 Peter Lynch, 2 Andrew Smyth, 3 Val Gunner.

Jan 13 - McPherson Excels in Waterford Half

While some of our athletes were running cross-country in Edinburgh a considerable number were involved in the re-scheduled Waterford half-marathon, with many, particularly the ladies, from the Fit4Life section. An outstanding performance by David McPherson saw him finish in 6th place with a quality time of 1.13.21. Pat Purcell, Trust Mtinsi and John Carey all finished under the one-and-a-half hours with  Tim Butler just outside that time. Seamus Kavanagh, Gary O’Dwyer and Mervin Doyle were not much further back. Marcella Dunne and Karen Ryan, dead heating on 1.47.17, led the ladies home. Finishing under the two hour barrier were Louise Lawlor, Anne Marie Shortall, Niki Read and Niamh Carroll. Good runs were also experienced by Claire Cusack, Louise Ruane, Teresa Comerford, Majella Grogan, Mags Maxwell, Shiela Lyster,Joanne Bergin and Mary Campion. Well done all.
