DEC 8 - KCH Ladies Excel on the Road
The overnight hard frost which left the side roads in a bottle led to a late change of venue for the County Kilkenny Ladies 5 mile road race championships. The move from Gowran to the old Kilkenny to Carlow road was welcomed by the enthusiastic ladies. Athletes from city club, Kilkenny City Harriers (KCH), were prominent from the start. By the half-way stage there was little between the club’s first three runners – Donna Dowling, Barbara Rossiter and AnneMarie O’Grady. As the race progressed, Donna Dowling – looking very fit – pulled away to take individual gold in 33minutes 41 seconds. Barbara Rossiter, 21 seconds later, took silver and O’Grady finished in bronze position in 34mins 22secs. KCH proved very strong on the day with the A team in first place on 10 points and the B team second with 28 points. Gowran’s Ann Doyle, finishing in 8th place in 37 mins 36 secs, led her team to third place.
Results – 1 Donna Dowling, KCH; 2 Barbara Rossiter, KCH; 3 AnneMarie O’Grady, KCH, 4 Kate Millea, KCH; 5 Sinead Foley, KCH; 6 Marie Murphy, KCH; 7 Caoimhe Foley, KCH; 8 Ann Doyle, Gowran; 9 Catherine Kennedy, Gowran; 10 Sheila O’Callaghan, KCH; 11 Cathy Millett, KCH; 12 Siobhan O’Dwyer, Gowran; 13 Leona Connolly, Gowran; 14 Martina Prendergast, Gowran; 15 Rhoda Griffith, Gowran; 16 Annette FitzPatrick, Gowran.
