Athletics Coaching
Our club, Kilkenny City Harriers, has had greatly increased memberships over the last two seasons. To give members the opportunity to develop appropriate fitness and skills we need more trained Leaders and Coaches. Excellent opportunities exist for parents, volunteers and assistant coaches to get training and qualifications in a number of disciplines as the Athletics Association of Ireland organise courses regularly and IN KILKENNY from time to time.
1. Athletics Leader - one day
2. Assstant Coach - one day

2. Level 1 – Over two weekends Friday (evenings)  and Saturdays
3. Fit4Life –

The Athletics Leader Course is designed to help develop the athletic fundamentals for children in the 5-10 year old age bracket. It focuses on introducing the fundamentals in a fun, exciting and non-competitive environment …using hurdles, obstacles, medicine balls, foam javelins, hoola hoops… to encourage tumbling, running, throwing, hopping, jumping.

The Assistant Coach course gives the volunteer the confidence to work with joung athletes on jumps, throws and sprints.

The aim of Level 1 Course is to continue to develop the fundamental skills of Running, Jumping, and Throwing (principally with 11-14 year olds) and making them more sport specific while still maintaining a fun and participative environment. Level 1 is open to all but it is recommended to those who have completed an Athletics Leader Course or an Assistant Coach Course or who have had some coaching experience.

Fit4life Leader Course is designed to equip “volunteers” with the skills to organise and conduct training courses for those involved in the Fit4life programme.
